Poor performance leads to point split vs Juventus.
During their recent undefeated run Inter would travel to Turin to face title contenders Juventus. Juventus would look to move up position in this campaigns tight title race. Juventus have beaten Inter 67% of the last six matches. Things Inter will need to keep a eye out for while facing Juventus are making sure they don’t take advantage of the ball in their own half of the pitch where they are dominant. They also need to keep their goal chances limited and make sure if they do get them they shut them down quickly to prevent goals from being scored. Inter also need to keep Juventus players well covered as they’re good at scoring goals through individual skills. In the first half Juventus would dominate the possession game and would be the only team who would open and take goal chances in this completely one sided first half but they would both hold each other to a stalemate as the first half would end with both at 0-0. The second half would be where Inter would start taking chances despite Juventus getting the most goal chances in both half’s combined and still running the possession game. Inter hold on to get a poorly earned point which still makes them the only unbeaten squad in Serie A. The match would end with a score of 0-0.
This week Inter would stick with the 4-3-2-1 formation but would have some player and position switches. In goal would be second in clean sheets Handanovic. On defense is the first place where player swaps would be made on left back would be Santon who would get his third start of the season on next to him left center back Miranda who would make his return start after being out of the lineup last week. On right center back would be Skriner who has been a great assets to the squad since his summer signing and on right back capping them off D’Ambrosio. On defensive mid field Valero who normally plays on center mid and Vecino. On the attacking side would be right winger and the second goal scorer for Inter Persic. On center mid would be Brozovic who would get his first start in quite some time. On left wing would be none other than Candreva. Up top Inter’s lead goal scorer the Inter scoring beast Mauro Icardi.
After the players would take their positions this match would commence. This match would start off slow and the real first scoring chance wouldn’t come until the ten minute mark when Juventus would try and break the deadlock early with Mario taking a right footed shot from the center of the box is saved. Seconds later Mario would rebound with a header from the left of the six yard box but his attempt would be blocked. A few minutes later Juventus former Roma star Pjanic takes a right foot shot from the outside of the box misses to the left after a free kick Juan Cuadrado. So far this match has been all Juventus with them leading both the possession game and getting goal chances. Can Inter get any momentum going? After the 20 minute mark Pjanic would take a right footed shot from outside the box is blocked assisted by Blaise Matuidi . So far Inter have been playing non aggressively and reserved at this point the opposition could be up 3-0 by now. Inter need to change something to try and get some sort of goal chances going to have any hope of winning this match. After the 35 minute mark Sami of Juventus takes a right footed shot from the right of the box is saved by Handanovic in the lower left corner of the goal assisted by Matuidi . Minutes later Sami Khedira again would look to put his squad on the board with only three minutes left to play in the opening half with a right footed shot from outside the box is blocked with an assist from Juan. Before the half would end in the last minute of this Juventus dominated half Mario Mandzukic of the home team would hit the post after a header from the center of the box assisted by a cross from Juan. This half would end with both squads 0-0. This half would be all Juventus with them crushing Inter in both the defensive and attacking game. If Inter have any hopes of winning or holding on to a draw they need to start getting aggressive and keeping the ball away from Juventus and opening goal opportunities of their own. If they don’t turn this match around soon they could be looking at their first loss of the campaign.
The match would resume after the break. Inter would be looking to get some sort of momentum going as they’ve failed to have any goal chances in the first half. Two minutes into the second half Pjanic takes a right footed shot from outside the box misses to the right. Finally after the fifty minute mark Inter would finally get a opportunity when Candreva takes a right footed shot from outside the box is saved in the right of the goal assisted by Valero. A minute later Pjanic would do a right footed shot from outside the box is blocked. Shortly after Mario takes a right foot shot off his own from outside the box is saved in the center of the goal. With eight minutes left to play Mario header from the center of the box is saved in the left corner assisted by Pjanic. Minutes after Brozovic does a left foot shot from outside the box is close but misses to the left assisted by Vecino. In the 86th minute Inter make their final substitution of the match has Eder comes on for Icardi. The final chance of the match comes when Paulo Dybala takes a header from the center of the box is blocked assisted by a cross by Kwadwo. The match would end in a 0-0 draw has both teams split a point.
This point was good but it was undeserved. Inter was clearly outplayed both in the possession and scoring game. Juventus clearly could’ve easily won 4-0. But at the end of the day a point is a point. Going forward the need to plan better tactically against tougher squads who can do good offensively and getting chances off. They also still need to work on opening up chances on goal. The man of the match is Handanovic who prevented any of Juventus chances getting in the goal and giving him his next clean sheet of the season. Next week Inter welcome visitors Udinese who currently sit 13th in the table. The last time these two squads faced off Inter would go on to win 5-2. This will be a exciting match. Until next time as always FORZA INTER.
