Score: Sassuolo 1 Inter 0
After their first loss of the season Inter would look to get back on winning track has they would travel and take on 15th place Sassuolo. The last time these two teams squared off Sassuolo would defeat Inter 2-1. Inter would come off their first loss of the campaign when they lost to Udinese 3-1. Sassuolo would come off a win vs mid table Sampdoria. Sassuolo have beaten Inter in five of their last six matches. Inter will need to keep an eye on if and when they take the lead because Sassuolo are good at protecting the lead once they get it. Also they need to keep their chances limited so they don’t have that chance to take the lead. Inter will need to put last weeks loss behind them and focus on getting back into winning form. The first half would be dominated by Inter in the possession game and chances area despite the only goal coming from the opposition as Falcinelli of the home side would give Sassuolo the lead where they would take that lead into the second half. In the second half Sassuolo would pick up more scoring chances in this half and would look to either add or keep their lead while Inter would look to get back on even terms and try and come away with at least a draw but would fail to do so has Sassuolo would defeat Inter 1-0 handing Inter their second loss of the campaign.
This week Inter would stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation but would see some player and position changes. In goal would be second in clean sheets Samir Handanovic. On defense on left back would be D’Ambrosio who would take the place of Santon and would move from his usual position of right back. On left center would be Miranda who has been a key starter since the start of the campaign. Right center back would be Skriniar who has been rumored with a transfer to Man City but Inter would not sell him since he just signed with them before the start of the season. Getting his second start of the season on right back taking place of D’Ambrosio Cancelo. On defensive mid field would be Valero and replacing Vecino next to him would be Gagliardini. On the left wing secondary goal scorer Perisic who would have 7 goals of the campaign. On the center mid who has three goals in Serie A competition Brozovic. On right wing would be none other than Candreva. Up top the Inter scoring beast striker Icardi who has been linked with a possible transfer to Real Madrid in the upcoming January transfer window. This looks like s strong lineup but history may repeat itself if they’re not careful.
The players would take the pitch and this match would get underway. Inter would look to strike early when Perisic near the five minute mark would take a right footed shot from outside the box goes just over the with an assist from Valero. Shortly after Candreva would look to put Inter on the board with a left footed shot from outside the box is saved in the center of the goal. A minute later Skriniar would take a header from the center of the box goes to high after a cross from Candreva. This is so far a all Inter match with them dominating the ball and keeping Sassuolo from getting any chances. But after the 15 minute mark the home squad Sassuolo would start to mount an offense when Lirola takes a right footed shot from outside the box misses to the right which would be their first real chance of the match. A minute later Perisic would try and break this deadlock with a header from the center of the box after a cross from Brozovic goes to high. Both teams would be playing keep away until after the twenty minute mark when Berardi of Sassuolo takes a left footed shot from a close range from the center of the box misses to the right. With twenty minutes in this so far Inter dominated matchup Perisic takes another header from the center of the box is saved in the bottom left corner after an assist from Gagliardini. Minutes would pass without any real action but eventually after the 35th minute the stalemate would be broken as Sassuolo Falcinelli takes a header from a close range to the top left corner from an assist from Politano with a cross. This would put the home boys Sassuolo up 1-0. Now would Inter be able to capitalize and get back on even terms? A minute later Sassuolo would look to add to their lead when Berardi takes a left footed shot from the left of the box is saved by Handanovic in the center of the goal. With five minute left in the half Candreva would look to even things up for Inter with a right footed shot from outside the box is high and wide to the right assisted by Brozovic. The half would end with Sassuolo up 1-0. If Inter can put the pressure on Sassuolo and get them to slip up and open up more opportunities and be able to capitalize on one of those chances they can come away with at least a point.
After the intermission this match would resume. Inter would make their first substitution early when Eder replaces Brozovic. Inter would look to get back into this match early in this final half when Candreva takes a right footed shot from the right of the box is blocked after an assist from Icardi with a header pass. Near the 50th minute Icardi would take a penalty opportunity after a hand ball from Sassuolo player Aceribi in the penalty area. Icardi would take a right footed shot but his attempt would be saved in the lower left corner of the goal. Inter need to shake off this mistake and focus on getting at least a point or else they can be looking at their second loss of the season. Minutes later Inter would try again and get themselves on the board when Candreva takes a right footed shot from outside the box misses high and to the right of the goal. Shortly after Sassuolo would look to add to their lead when Falcinelli takes a right footed shot from outside the box is blocked. Then at the 55th minute mark Candreva takes a left footed shot in attempt to get Inter some sort of hope of a point from outside the box is saved in the center of the goal. Some time would pass with each team trying to keep the ball away from the other with little to no chances being shown. After the 65th minute however another chance would arise for the home side as Falcinelli takes a right footed shot from the center of the box is high and to the right after a fast break from Ragusa. With nineteen minutes to play Skriniar takes a header from a close range near the goal but misses to the right assisted by a cross from Eder. Two minutes later Duncan of Sassuolo takes a left footed shot from the right of the box misses to the left. In the same minute Perisic takes a header from the left of the goal and misses to the right. In the 77th minute Inter make their second substitution of the match when Dalbert replaces D’Ambrosio because of an injury. With ten minutes to play Inter make their final subbing of the match has Mario comes on for Miranda. Shortly after Matteo of Sassuolo takes a left footed shot from the right of the box is saved in the center of the goal. Now with only five minutes to play Inter would do anything to get a much needed point Eder would try and do just that with a right footed shot from the center of the box misses to the left after a headed pass from Icardi. In the final seconds of this match Inter would have one last chance to get at least a point when Perisic takes a right footed shot from the center of the box is blocked. Sassuolo would hold on and win 1-0 against Inter has they hand them their second loss of the campaign.
This match proves that Inter have a lot of work to do before they can consider themselves title contenders. The defense is sloppy and inconsistent. Some weeks they’re doing a great job by keeping pressure on the opposition and prevent them from getting chances. Other weeks they let them get past them and allowing them to get more chances which is a very costly mistake. Then the offense needs to focus on capitalizing on goal opportunities. Also in general they need to stop letting losses get to them which usually happens with Inter. They let a small loss mess with their mentality and in return they get more losses and inconsistent performances because of them. Last off Spalletti needs to not be afraid of changing things up not just players and positrons. Like if you think another formation may be better against a certain opponent don’t be afraid to change it. Also focus on your own team and stop insulting the fans of your former team. The man of the match is Perisic who would open up multiple opportunities and assist during the match. Also who has shown strong leadership qualities in this whole campaign as well. Next week Inter have a tough match ahead as they take on visitors Lazio. The last time they met Inter would go on to win 3-1. This is a highly anticipated matchup against these two powerhouses. The best Inter can hope for in this match is a draw based on their recent performances. But this is going to be a exciting match regardless. As always FORZA INTER.
