Inter vs Sassuolo Match Day Preview #53

Serie A football is set to return this weekend after several months the offseason is over as football is back. This week is Inter’s season in the season opener as this new look Inter will travel to the Mapei Stadium take on Sassuolo. Up until this past season Inter had struggled to qualify for even the Europa League as Inter would finish that season in sixth position as their derby rivals Milan qualified for Europe by just a point which was a crushing blow to fans. But with Luciano Spalletti becoming manager before the start of this past season after his contract ended with Roma has helped slowly turn things around with the club. With his help Inter were able to secure the last Champions League spot. Also with that Inter produced one of the shared golden boot award winners Mauro Icardi who scored 29 goals along side Lazio’s Immobile. Sassuolo would finish 11th in the table two points above nearest competitor Genoa who finished 12th. Last year Sassuolo swept the season series better Inter twice as Inter historically have a hard time against the Green an white of Sassuolo. But as this is a new season anything can happen.

Inter Milan

Inter are coming off a successful but lucky last season as they would get back into the Champions League. Inter in this match will look to get winning momentum early on to set the tempo for the season and to help build a winning mentality especially as they compete in the Champions League. Because if Inter can get a winning mentality they may be able to do something in the CL. Inter have had a average transfer window however they did bring in a few good signings like Stefan Devrij from Lazio, Lautaro Martinez from Racing who has been showing he has great potential in the preseason scoring at least a total of at least 4 goals or more. Also they signed the Ninja Radja Nainggolan from Roma who has been a vital part of that club for the past four seasons who made 138 apps and 26 goals and who looks to potentially be a viable assets this season. Inter has been struggling to win in preseason against teams that they could’ve easily beaten which can be a problem if they take that into the regular season especially up against teams like Juventus, Milan, Lazio, Roma. Hopefully they can fix all the bugs during the last week of training before the season starts next week. Also this will be Politano first match in Inter colors as he will take on his former club. Inter are strong goal chance takers and who will do what is needed to win despite a few losses along the way. They have a strong defense however they struggle against big clubs which can be a problem if they don’t get this fixed. They are stronger at home but will do well away depending on the club. Inter look to be stronger on paper as should be able to pick up their first win of this year’s campaign. Inter’s key player in this match is Marco Icardi one of the most dangerous goal scorers in the entire league if hes at his best he will be a nightmare to deal with Sassuolo will have their hands full with this guy.

Sassuolo who finished 11th last season look to move up in the standings this season. Before last season Eusebio Di Francesco would leave Sassuolo as he would become manager of A.S Roma after Spalletti left the manager position vacant as mentioned earlier as he took over for Inter. Sassuolo has always been a middle table team over the past three seasons and they’re hoping to change that. During the transfer window Sassuolo lost one of their best players Francesco Acerbi to Lazio which could see a change in tactics this week against Inter Milan. This club is known for their dominance at home. They are a great home team capable of taking their chances having the ability to score goals. They’re great when they get goals to hold the lead making their strategy flawless. Their defense is hit and miss but like stated they do a great job especially against visiting clubs which has been the case as Inter have struggled time and time again to win on Sassuolo’s home soil. If history shows anyone anything those who don’t learn their history are doomed to repeat it. Sassuolo’s key player for the match is Alfred Duncan he will cause inter massive issues if he has space to operate he will make things hard or Inter on both sides of the ball. He has rapid pace and can inflict defensive and attacking play will be a big difference maker .

Bottom Line

Last Meeting: Sassuolo 2-1 win

us-sassuolo-v-fc-internazionale-serie-a-5af4abaef7b09d2189000001-1000x600Inter on paper is a much stronger side with really good players however despite that Inter could struggle against Sassuolo epsically because they away from the San Siro. They have often found it difficult as have struggled to win against Sassuolo for the last few seasons. despite being the stronger side on paper Sassuolo has strong Success at home. Inter have the much better team but Sassuolo have some quality players that can cause some serious issues. Sassuolo needs to be near perfect defensively because of the fire power Inter have with Icardi and Persic. If Sassululo can normalize Icardi they may be able to steal one over Inter. From Inter Milan’s perspective when chances come they must take advantage Inter Milan will have the majority of the chances and control possession it wont mean anything if they cant score. Sassuolo is a very efficient team Inter cant allow them to be dominant and lose because Sassuolo took their chances. Inter will be the favorites but Sassululo will be ready to rip their heads off however I think Inter have a much improved team and will have took much for Sassuolo but based on recent history we cant understand the green and white of Sassuolo.
