Cheivo stun Inter as they equalize at the death #100

Score:Inter Milan 1 Cheivo 1 FT

Marcantonio Bentegodi, Verona Italy

Following their slim win over Udinese Inter travel to Verona to take on bottom of the table Cheivo. The last time these sides faced each other Inter won the match 2-1. Inter overall have won five out of their last six matches against them. Cheivo who finished thirteenth last season have found themselves at the bottom of the table which is caused by them being docked points as they got in trouble for financial fair play rule breaking. Inter who had a rocky start to the season currently sit in third and heading towards another Champions League spot. Form wise Inter have been hit and miss in their past few matches while Cheivo have been struggling all season in both defense and offense. Inter have a lot of ways they can defeat Cheivo such as attacking down the wings and and using set piece situations to create chances along with using long shots and through balls as Cheivo have a very hard time defending the ball in those key aspects. They will also need to maintain possession of the ball and keep them isolated in their half of the pitch. Cheivo also struggle not to foul in critical areas which can cost them points which is another thing Inter can utilize. Inter on their end need to work on finishing scoring chances as they were doing so well but as of late been slacking on it. Defense wise they are doing a decent job but still need work on defending against stronger teams but overall they are the more consistent side of the team. In the first half there were limited chances taken as Inter struggled to create chances and finish them. Cheivo was kept to a stand still with limited chances before the half would end Perisic gives Inter the 1-0 lead before the half. In the second half Cheivo started putting pressure on Inter creating more chances despite Inter owning the possession and chance creation. Just when Inter had this match won Pellissier came back with the equalizer as both sides came away with a point each.

This week Inter stick with the 4-3-3 formation. In goal is none other the Handanovic. On defense moving to the left back position is D’Ambrosio. In the middle is the pairing of Milan Skriniar and Devrij who have helped the defense become stronger than recent season. On the position of right back is Vrsalijko. On defensive mid on left wingback is Radja who is retuning from injury following some muscle fatigue hopefully him returning helps the team. In the middle is epic Crocovic also known as simply Brozovic and on right wingback is Mario. On the attacking side of the spectrum on the left wing is Perisic who hopefully refinds his form again soon. In the middle is the main goal scorer but is having a difficult time this season finding the back of the goal. On the right wing is Politano who has helped mostly with assist but has made a few chances of his own. This is a okay lineup but Inter are better off where Icardi can be a solo striker so he can work his magic.

After bets were placed and the players took the pitch with Verona as the back drop for this matchup this match gets underway. Cheivo looked to strike early as in the first minute Riccardo from a long range of the goal after a headed pass from Fabio connects with the left foot but with Handanovic quick thinking saves the ball in the upper right corner. A few minutes later Inter get their first chance of the match as Perisic takes a shot from outside the box but the ball goes over the crossbar. Both sides have been doing a great job holding each other to a stale mate has limited chances have been taken between both sides. Before the twenty five minute mark Icardi after a cross from the ninja Radja takes a header from the center of the box misses to the left of the goal. Minutes later Fabio takes a header of his own but his attempt gets blocked. Following that Icardi again tries to get Inter on the board with a shot from the center of the box but gets saved in the center of the goal. Seconds later Radja misses a right footed shot as the ball coast over the crossbar. Near the thirty five minute mark Politano from outside the box takes a left footed shot but the ball misses to the left. Near the forty minute mark Inter break the dead lock as Perisic connects a left footed shot from the center of the box as the ball lands in the back top center of the goal giving Inter the 1-0 lead. Before the half ends Inter get one final chance to add to their lead as Mario from the right of the box takes a shot with the right foot misses to the right of the goal with that the half ends with Inter up 1-0.

Following the break this match resumes. Early in the half Perisic takes a left footed shot from the left of the box but his shot is blocked. Both sides are doing a great job holding each other off. After the fifty five minute mark Icardi from the center of the box connects a right footed shot but it gets saved in the lower right corner. Two minutes later Sergio takes a right footed shot but Handanovic saves it in the lower right corner of the goal. Seconds later Sergio again with the right foot from the center of the box misses to the left of the goal. Following the sixty minute mark Nicola from outside the box takes a shot with the right foot but his shot is blocked. Minutes later Icardi takes a right footed shot but it gets blocked. Minutes later Inter make their first subbing as Vecino comes on for Radja. Two minutes later Perparim misses a right footed shot from outside the box. In the seventy fifth minute Inter make subbing number two as the bull Martinez comes on for Politano. Perisic a few minutes later gets back to back shots with the right foot one gets blocked while the other misses to the right of the goal. With eight minutes left to play Inter make their last subbing Valero replaces Mario. In the final minute as Inter seemed to have this match in the bag but Cheivo said no way as Sergio from the center of the box takes a shot with the right foot as the ball lands in the lower left corner as they salvaged a point as the final whistle blew.

This result is a complete and utter disappointment. There is no excuse for why they got this draw. This match should’ve been a easy win. Tactics in recent matches have been costing Inter much needed points. Icardi as mentioned earlier in the article is better off as a solo player and the formation they have him in currently is not helping him do his best work. The subbing choices have also been mind blowing as when some of the subbing come on they do very little to nothing to help the team when they come on and some of the starter choices and the positioning is also a issue. The man of the match is Perisic he did a great job controlling the ball and creating chances along with scoring the goal for Inter. It was a breathe of fresh air seeing him score that goal as he has been struggling as of late. On Wednesday Inter go back home to welcome visitors second place Napoli. The last time these two sides faced one another each side would get a point a piece but with Inter being in December and having a hard time getting a win this match more than likely could end in a draw but hopefully they turn things around and pull off a much needed win. Until next time FORZA INTER.
