Olimpico Grande Torino
Torino Italy

Following their draw against Sassuolo Inter travel to take on eleventh place Torino. Torino however are coming off a 3-2 loss at the hands of Roma. This match will hold significance for Torino as they fight in a close race for a spot in the Europa League. The last time these two sides faced each other the match ended in a 2-2 draw. Normally when they face off the match ends in a draw but overall when it comes to winning the matches Torino has the edge. Inter as of late find themselves struggling to finish chances along with preventing opponents from creating chances against them; which is one thing they will need to work on in this match as they want to keep their distance from fourth place Milan who sit five points behind them at the moment. A win for Torino on the other hand will put them in eighth place depending how the other matches go this weekend. If Inter have any hopes of winning this match they will need to finish their scoring chances along with maintaining possession of the ball because even though they’re a mid table side if Torino get the ball they can do some serious damage especially with Falque and Bellotti in their attacking midfield. They will also need to prevent Torino from getting chances of their own they can do this by utilizing the offside trap which Torino seem to fall too. They will also need to keep the ball away from Falque and Belotti as mentioned a few sentences ago as they are strong attackers and will run circles around Inter if they don’t pay attention. This match will more than likely end in a draw but winning wise though Inter are the stronger side on paper Torino have the slight advantage. In the first half both sides would open multiple chances but in way of making those chances Torino had the advantage while Inter on the other hand had the dominant possession which is very characteristic of them as a team. In the last ten minutes of the half Torino break the deadlock with a goal from Izzo. This makes it 1-0 to Torino. In the second half both sides would continue to create chances with Inter yet again maintaining the possession of the ball. Inter looked to at least get a draw but they would be unable to do so as Torino hold on for the 1-0 victory.

This week Inter change from the 4-2-3-1 formation and opt for the 3-4-1-2 formation which is unorthodox for them as they seldom use it. In goal is key starter Handanovic. On the defense on the position of left back is Skriniar who is one of the few stronger defensive players on the team and who is more consistent. On the roll of center back is a player who really doesn’t start much anymore but is utilized from time to time Miranda. Then finishing them off on the right is another consistent defender Devrij. Staring on the defensive mid on left wingback is Dalbert, In the middle is the usual pairing of Brozovic and Vecino. Capping them off on the right wingback spot is D’Ambrosio. On the attacking mid which is the only player starting in it is Mario who is slowly getting back into form. Then up top tagging up together the Argentine striker duo of Icardi and Martinez. This a weird lineup and not a fan of it. It’s better if they stuck with another defender in the back as this allows Belloti and Falque the chance to run circles around them as they don’t have that added security. Because this looks like a mediocre lineup at best.

After bets were placed and after final preparations this match gets ready to rumble. Minutes into the half Torino looked to get things started off as Lorenzo from the center of the box takes a header but Hanadanovic saves it in the center of the goal. Seconds later Inter get their first chance as the bull Martinez hooks a left footed shot from the center of the box as well but the ball misses the goal to the left. So far this match is evenly matched early on but everything can change in an instant. At the fifteen minute mark Vecino after a headed pass from Martinez connects a shot with the right foot from outside the box is blocked. Minutes later a player who doesn’t take many chances D’Ambrosio from the right of the box takes a right footed shot but is saved in the lower right corner. Inter so far are taking advantage in scoring chances and possession. A minute later Icardi follows it up with a right footed shot of his own from outside the box but his shot is also saved in the lower right corner of the goal. After the twenty minute mark Torino get their second chance of the half as Ansaldi with the left foot from outside the box but it goes over the crossbar to the left. Torino are now slowly trying to get some momentum going now because this is a side that doesn’t go down without a fight. But still keeping majority of possession are the visitors Inter. Near the thirty five minute point Zaza of Torino following a cross from Ansaldi takes a header from the center of the box but his shot is blocked. A minute later the stale mate is broken as Izzo after a cross from Ansaldi from the center of the box takes a header as the ball lands in the back of the net in the lower left corner giving the home side the 1-0 lead. Inter a minute later look to equalize things as Brozovic misses a right footed shot from outside the box. Seconds later Zaza looks to add to Torino’s lead with a shot from the left of the box but it gets blocked. With two minutes to play Belotti misses a left footed shot from outside the box as the ball goes over the crossbar. In the final minute Inter look to get that much needed equalizer as Martinez from outside the box takes a left footed shot but the ball misses to the left. With that the half ends with Torino up 1-0. If Inter don’t finish their chances and capitalize on one of them they are easily heading towards a loss here. They also need to stop Torino’s advances as they took advantage of scoring chances and capitalized on one of their chances. If Inter don’t wake up it will be lights out for the boys in black and blue.

Following the break and team pep talks this match resumes play. Minutes into this final half Inter look to get the equalizer as Dalbert from outside the box connects a left footed shot but the ball goes to the right of the goal. Minutes later Torino get their first chance of the half as Belotti takes a right footed shot from the right of the box but Handanovic saves it in the top right corner of the goal. Minutes later Inter will make their first swap of the match as Radja comes on for Miranda. Shortly after Belotti after a cross from Aina takes a header from the center of the box is high and goes way left of the goal. Torino are dominating in scoring chances while Inter still control the possession. Aina nearing the fifty eight minute mark misses a right footed shot from the right of the box as the ball goes to the right. Zaza after with twenty eight minutes to go takes a left footed shot from the left of the box is blocked. Almost seventy minutes in Radja from outside the box takes a right footed shot but the ball goes to the right. Radja really needs to step up as a player because so far he’s been a bust since the get-go. After the seventy minute mark Inter make their next subbing as Politano comes on for Mario. Two minutes after being subbed on Politano from outside the box takes a left footed shot but the ball misses to the left. With thirteen minutes to go Brozovic with the right foot from outside the box is blocked. Seven minutes to go Inter put on their final subbing as Candreva replaces Vecino. Minutes later after being careless Politano is given a red card for apparently arguing with the referee. In the final minutes Ola From outside the box takes a right footed shot is blocked. In the final minute Devrij gives Inter one last shot at securing a point with a right footed shot from the right of the box but misses to the right with that the match ends with a Torino win and putting Inter only five points above Milan in the table.

To be honest this result was coming as Torino are fighting for a spot in the Europa League and also recent history shows how these matches between the two usually go. Inter continue their struggle during the winter months. With Milan now five points behind Inter wins now become critical as Milan will do everything in their power make-up ground and potentially take third place out from under them. This time draws won’t cut it. Inter still struggle against teams such as Torino, Sassuolo, and Parma they be mid table sides but they do have potential of fighting to be in the Europa League and someday Champions. They need to find a formula to win against them. The man of the match is Milan Skriniar who took chances when needed and blocked Torino’s advances and was the more consistent player throughout the match and does whatever is needed to put on a solid performance. Inter’s next match will be the Coppa Italia final eight match against Lazio then in Serie A action Inter welcome relegation side Bologna the last time they faced off Inter won the match 3-0 this should be a win for Inter but as of late Inter show little fight and may hand Bologna a win but who knows. As always until the next one FORZA INTER.
