Inter vs Genoa match day 30 preview #144

After their loss against Lazio Inter take on Genoa at their place. Genoa themselves are coming off a loss of their own against Udinese. The last time these two sides faced off Inter destroyed them in a 5-0 shut out victory. Inter overall have won majority of their matches against Genoa. Genoa in this match look to move up in the league standings while Inter look to widen their gap as Milan still remain two points back. Inter have been reverting back to their old ways as they have been having inconstant performances. It’s just as they start getting some momentum a bad performance causes them to slip up then they’re back to square one. Inter in their past five matches are 1 draw, 2 losses and 2 wins while Genoa have 2 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw. Inter in this match are the clear front runners but here is how these two sides will stack up in this midweek matchup.

Inter Milan

Still out with injury is Martinez who is out with a hamstring injury and it is unsure when he’ll return. Icardi who was back at training as of late was called off the list as the drama surrounding him still continues. Defensive wise they are consistent they so a solid job blocking chances and stealing the ball players who do a great job in this area is Skriniar and Devrij who should be back in the lineup after suffering an injury himself. But as of late the weak link is D’Ambrosio who as a hard time keeping the ball on his team. Another player who as been a shell of his former self as of late is Brozovic who has been on a scoreless run over the past few months hopefully he can move things in a positive direction once again. Some players who really need to get things going or they will possibly be sold at the end of the season are Vecino and Valero who have done nothing for the squad over the past few seasons and are more deadweight now. On the attacking side Politano and Radja are the more solid players while Perisic is hit and miss. Martinez as been a strong forward but due to injury he will be out for awhile if they don’t start Icardi they will need to change their approach. The key player in this match will be Politano who is strong inside and out of the box and will run all over Genoa if they don’t keep him contained.

Genoa are the underdogs in this match. On their defense goalkeeper Radu is a solid goalkeeper who will try and make sure Inter don’t get any goals in this match. But on the main defense Pereira is a huge threat as he is good at stealing the ball and maitaining possession for his side. The same can be said for Pezella. On their midfeild players who will give Inter potential issues are Radovanovic. He is strong outside the box but mostly he is deadly inside the box. Pandev is one of their strongest players and will be the key threat in this match. He will take chances frequently and maintain control of the ball and if Inter don’t isolate him he will give them a headache.

The bottom line

In this match Inter will need to make sure they finish their chances. They will also need to maintain possession of the ball and keeping the ball away from Genoa. Genoa will need to hard press and try and keep the ball themselves. When it comes to the formation side of things Inter will have something to consider. Since Martinez is out with an injury and if they decide to keep Icardi on the sidelines they may need to change the formation from the 4-2-3-1 to a 4-3-3 as Balde is not strong enough in a striker roll. So it would be better if they did without a striker on top. The defense will be better as Devrij should be back in the lineup and will give it that depth again. This match should be an easy win for Inter but if they don’t shape up a draw could happen.
