Inter vs Napoli Match Day 37 Preview #159

After their win against Cheivo Inter take on second place Napoli. Napoli are coming off a win themselves. The last time these two sides clashed Inter won the match 1-0. Inter have been hit and miss all season and in this match their third place finish hangs in the balance as Atalanta sit two points behind them. Napoli will look to just add points to their total as their second place finish is secured. Over the course of their past six matches they each have two wins a piece the other two matches resulted in a draw. This a must win for Inter as we head into the final two matches of the season.

Inter Milan

On the injured list and most likely will be out the rest of the season is Devrij after suffering a abductor muscle injury. This season the main part of the defense which is the keeper Handanovic has been on fire as he is on track to getting the golden glove with so far 17 clean sheets. He has also become a strong leader and helped get this team into shape. Defensive wise Skriniar who just renewed his contract with the club until 2023 continues to be a key anchor along with Devrij but due to injury he is out but when they play together they are a force to be reckoned with. Miranda he is not a key starter but when he plays he is still a threat. D’Ambrosio still continues to be the weak link. Asomah overall is hit and miss. Midfield wise on the defensive aspect the only players who continues to create chances despite not capitalizing on them are Brozovic and Vecino while Valero is hit and miss depending on their opponents. On the attacking midfield Politano continues to get better has a player. Radja despite age still shows signs of life despite not scoring many goals. The key player in this match will be Martinez who is growing as a player and who is good at creating and finishing chances and if not contained will give Napoli issues.

Napoli have one of the strongest clubs being eight time scudetto winners Juventus. Defensive wise they have two players that stand out. The first is their keeper Ospin. He is good at saving opponents chances along with directing team traffic where needed. Koulibaly is the other despite the horrid racial abuse he’s endured this season from other clubs he is one of the best defenders Serie A has to offer. He is great at stealing the ball along with blocking chance especially inside the box. Midfield wise the key player in this area are Mertens who is a solid goal chance taker along with assisting with others goal attempts. Forward wise Milik is great at finishing goal attempts along with the key things mentioned with Mertens. But the key player who does all of that is their strongest forward Insigne who has been a key threat all season as he is consistent in all he does. If Inter don’t contain him he will run all over them.

The bottom line

In this match Inter will need to do the usual culprits such as finishing scoring chances and defending the ball. They will have their work cut out for them as Napoli are strong offensively but like Inter they struggle with aerial duals. But there is one thing that Inter can do to detour some of their chances which is utilize the offside trap as Napoli are commonly found offside. As Inter are playing Napoli on their home turf which is where they are strong more than likely this match will result in a loss for Inter but either way a win for them is a must if they really want to finish in third place.
