Inter Milan 4 Lecce 0
Finally everyone welcome back to Serie A. As most of you already know in back to back seasons Inter have finished fourth and securing a spot in the Champions League. Over the summer there have been changes made such as hiring new manager and signing players Sensi, Lazzaro, Barella, Godin and Lukaku to the club. So there is a lot of new faces. In this match Inter welcome promoted Lecce from Serie B. The last time these two sides faced each other was all the way back in the 2011-12 season when Lecce got relegated. Overall Inter have won four out of their past six matches against them. This will be Conte’s first real Serie A match after taking the helm from Luciano Spalleti. In this match Inter will need to do the usual culprits finishing chances, maintaining possession of the ball and stealing the ball when Lecce has it. Lecce will need to do the same thing but it will be a harder hill for them to climb has Inter are the clear favorites. Inter should win this match has they are the stronger side and they’re playing at home where they are the strongest. In the first half Inter came out with a bang scoring two goals in the half and creating most of the chances in it as well. They did a solid job blocking Lecce’s chances. In the second half they did the same thing along with burying two more goals into the back of the net. This gives Inter the first three points of the season.
In this match we see a formation that Inter hasn’t used in awhile which is a common formation used by Antonio Conte the 3-5-2. In goal is last seasons golden glove winner Samir Handanovic. On defense on left back is Milan Skriniar who in this case is not seen with his tag partner Devrij. In the center is Ranocchia who didn’t start much last season under Luciano Spalleti’s 4-2-3-1 formation. Capping them off on the right is a defender who has become a key starter but can often be a weak link D’Ambrosio. On the left wing is Asaomah. On the defensive midfield is Sensi making his debut with the club and Vecino. The center mid for this match is Brozovic. On the right wing is Candreva. He has been given a bad wrap has he hasn’t been in form as of recent seasons. The forwards up top are Martinez and making his debut from Manchester United Lukaku. This lineup is ok but not playing Devrij maybe a mistake and on top of that this is a whole new formation and it is unsure of how this formation will work in league play.
After final predictions and preparations on a Monday night this match is about to get under way. Inter start things off by Sensi taking a shot from the left of the box but it gets blocked. A minute later Lecce would start things off with a shot from Andrea missing a header from the right of the box. After the ten minute mark Sensi gets his second chance of the match with a shot from outside the box but it gets blocked. Six minutes later Martinez misses a header from the left of the box as the ball just goes over the crossbar. Minutes later the deadlock would be broken as Brozovic lands a shot from outside the box landing in the top right corner making it 1-0 to Inter. Minutes later Inter add to their lead as Sensi on his debut lands a shot from outside the box into the lower left corner making it 2-0. Inter so far are dominating this match keeping Lecce chances limited and are strong on the counter attacks. It wouldn’t be until after the thirtieth minute that Lecce get their fifth chance of the match as Andrea gets a shot saved in the top left corner of the goal. Minutes later they get another chance to put themselves on the board as Panagiotis gets a shot blocked. With eight minutes left in the half Panagiotis gets another shot blocked from outside the box. Andrea misses a shot from outside the box as the ball goes to the right. With that the half ends with the homeside up 2-0. If Inter can maintain this momentum this match should be in the bag.
Following the break this match resumes with Inter in firm control of the match. Lecce get the first chance of the half as Andrea passes the ball to Fillipo who sets a shot from a close range to the goal but it gets blocked. Minutes later Marco of Lecce following a pass from Fillipo takes a shot from outside the box but it goes to the right of the goal. Seconds later he takes another attempt but this time the ball misses to the left. It wouldn’t be until after the fifty minute mark that Inter get their first chance of the half as Candreva sends a cross to Martinez who takes a shot from the center of the box but it gets blocked. A few seconds later Lukaku buries a right footed shot into the center of the goal making it 3-0. Marcelo Brozovic minutes later following a corner from Sensi takes a shot but the ball goes to the right of the goal. Minutes later Conte makes his first subbing of the match has he puts on Barella for Vecino. Seconds later Martinez following a cross from Lukaku gets a shot saved from the center of the box. Inter minutes later make their next subbing as Gagliardini comes on for Sensi. With fourteen minutes left in this match Diego of Lecce is sent off following a bad foul. This is followed by Inter’s final substitution of the match has Politano comes on for Martinez. With six minutes to go Candreva following a pass from Barella takes a shot from outside the box lands the ball into the lower left corner putting the nail in the coffin as Inter go up 4-0. With that the match ends as Inter secure all three points and give them their first win of the season.
This result was to be expected as they were facing the weakest team in the league. But still a win is a win which fans are happy with. Hopefully they can mainatain this momentum throughout the season as Conte’s goal is to get them back to another Scudetto. They did a solid job blocking Lecce’s chances and stealing the ball from them. They maintained dominence in Lecce’s half of the pitch. Offensively they did a great job on the counter attacks and setting and creating chances along with finishing them. Lecce despite creating chances had a hard time capitializing on them and defensive wise they did good blocking some and saving some of Inter’s chances but at the rate they were creating them getting goals in was inevitable. The man of the match goes to Brozovic. He did a great job getting Inter on the board along with creating multiple chances and setting up assist. He blocked chances from Lecce where it was needed and helped pave the way for Inter getting their first three points of the season. Next week Inter take on Cagliari who they have the advatage against as they usually defeat them. Until next week
