Inter Milan 1 Lazio 0FT
After their win against their rivals Milan in another derby showdown Inter welcome fifth place Lazio. Last season these two sides would split the season with each getting a win each. Overall Inter have won three out of their last six matches against them. In this match Inter will look for their fifth win in a row while Lazio are looking to get their third overall win. In this match Inter will need to work on avoiding offside errors as they tend to lose valuable chances doing so. Some things Inter can use to their advantage is Lazio themselves struggle with offsides as well so they can utilize the offside trap to detur their chances. Another thing they can do is utilize long shots as defensive wise they have a hard time defending those kind of shots. Inter will also look to maintain their possession style tactics along with creating chances as often as possible. One area Inter have become stronger in is in areial duals where they’ve been having issues in recent seasons. Lazio however will look to steal the ball away from Inter and will look to run with the ball on the counter attacks as they are strong in this area. This match should be a win for Inter has they have the momentum but never count Lazio has they wont go down without a fight. In the first half both sides did a solid job creating chances though Lazio were stronger at getting those chances on target. After the twentieth minute Inter broke away as D’Ambrosio lands the ball into the back of the net making things 1-0 to the homeside. The half ends with Inter in the lead. In the second half both sides continued to create chances and Inter lead in both chances and possession and this match ended in a Inter victory as this makes it five wins in a row.
Inter in the match utilize the 3-4-1-2 formation. In goal is none other than Handanovic. On the defense as usual tagging up the dynamic duo of Skriniar and Devrij. On the far right capping them off is Godin who in my opinion is stronger in this area over D’Ambrosio. On the defensive midfield on the position of left wingback is Barella who needs to show if he was really worth the investment because his performances have been subpar and he has been all talk no action. In the middle is the duo of Brozovic and Vecino. Then capping them off on the right wingback which is a far better place for him is D’Ambrosio. Up on the solo position getting his first start of the campaign is Biraghi. Up top is the pairing of Lukaku and Politano. This is a decent lineup who is capable of beating Lazio they need to beware of their top goal scorer Immobile but other than that this is a lineup that has potential.
Following final preparations and the lineups being announced this match was about to begin. Things early on it was pretty much a back and forth match of keep away as this match had no real chances were being made and things started off slow. After the twentieth after a set up cross from Biraghi D’Ambrosio lands a header from outside the box lands into the lower left corner as this now puts Inter up 1-0. A minute later Lazio get their first chance of the match as Correa from outside the box lands a shot but gets saved in the top right corner of the goal. Lukaku two minutes later from outside the box misses a shot as the ball goes to the right of the goal. After the thirtieth minute following a cross from Biraghi Devrij takes a header but it misses slightly to the right. So far Inter are dominating the possession and creating chances. Correa within two minutes created three great chances one was saved the other missed to the left of the goal while the other was blocked. Bastos would give Lazio one final chance to bring the match back on even terms but his shot is saved in the lower right corner with that the half ends with Inter leading 1-0. If Inter can maintain this momentum this match match is theirs for the taking.
After the break this match resumes. Five minutes into the half Savic looked to give Lazio life with a shot from the center of the box but it gets blocked. A minute later Vecino from the center of the box takes a shot but his shot gets blocked as well. Sensi in the fifty seventh minute comes on for Vecino. Barrela and Politano each take a chance within seconds of each other but both chances are saved in the center of the goal. Correa following a headed pass from Acerbi takes a shot but it gets saved in the top left corner. With less than twenty minutes to go Sensi and Politano take shots within a few seconds of each other but Sensi chance goes over the crossbar while Politano is blocked. Inter with thirteen minutes to go in the match make their next subbing as Martinez comes on for Politano. This seven minutes later is where they make their last substitution of the matchas Sanchez comes on for Lukaku. Martinez takes a shot from the right of the box but it gets blocked. In the final seconds of stoppage time Inter look to add to their lead as Martinez misses a shot from the left of the box. With that Inter secure their fifth win in a row as they are showing signs of being a title contending team.
This was another massive win for Inter as they’ve beaten two real challenging teams in a row. Inter are showing that they can be real contenders for the Scudetto this season. In this match they did a great job creating and finishing scoring chances which has been an area where they’ve struggled. Defensive wise they are becoming better at blocking opponents chances along with taking the ball away from them and breaking away on the counter attack which is another area they are becoming more solid in. The man of the match goes to Biraghi who helped set up the match winning goal along with assiting others in theirs he is showing he can be a valuable asset to the club. In their next match Inter will be taking on bottom of the table Sampdoria if they can take this momentum with them they may have a sixth victory in their sights. As always until the next one Forza Inter.
