Inter comeback from deficit as they secure another three points against Verona. #199

After their loss against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League Inter resume Serie A play against Hellas Verona. Verona are coming off a win against Brescia. Inter in league play beat their opponent Bologna. Inter have won four out of their last six matches against Verona while the other two results gave been a draw. These two sides haven’t faced each other since the 2017-18 season when Verona was promoted only to be sent back down but they were recently promoted at the end of last season. This season both sides are doing well with Inter one point behind Juventus while Verona with being brought back to Serie A are sitting comfortablely in ninth. In this match Inter will look to keep their position or jump Juventus in the standings while Verona look to move in the standings. In this match Inter will need to make sure they capitialize on their scoring chances along with preventing Verona from creating them as thet’s been one of their key issues. They also need to continue to win areial duals and blocking Veronas chances. This match should be an easy win for Inter as they have a more healthy squad and have the advantage on paper. In the first half Inter took hold of possession and dominated in scoring chances but part way in Verona wss gifted a penalty after a bad foul which was converted putting the visitors up 1-0. The half ended with Verona up 1-0. In the second half of the match Inter continued their dominance. With the amount of chances Inter were creating it was only a matter of time before they capitialzed which happended in the sixty fifth minute as Inter find the back of the net which made things all sqaure. Minutes later Inter find the net once more taking their first lead of the match and they would hold on for the win keeping them once again one point behind Juventus.

In this match Inter revert back to the 3-5-2 formation with a few player switches. In goal is key starter Handanovic who has four clean sheets this season and who is looking to get his second back to back golden glove. On the defense replacing Godin and on the left back is Bastoni. He is followed by the defensive duo of Devrij and Skriniar. On the midfield on the left is Biraghi who is taking over for Asomah who is out with injury. Next to him is Barella who is becoming a stronger player as the season progresses. In the center is Brozovic he is one of the only other players who as been in the lineup routinely this campaign. Then Vencino and Lazaro complete the midfield. Up in front is the duo of Martinez and Lukaku who have proved they’re a force not to be messed with. This is a solid lineup but they will need to beware of Salcedo who knows the club and will give Verona all the info they need to know about Inter.

Following final bets and lineups being announced this match gets underway. Minutes in Salcedo of Verona takes a shot from the right of the box but gets saved in the lower right corner. A few minutes later Faraoni gets a shot blocked from the center of the box. Inter at exactly the tenth minute Martinez misses a header as it goes over the crossbar. Salcedo takes a shot from the right of the box as it gets blocked both sides are doing a great job creating chances but Inter like always took hold of dominant possession. Approaching the twenty minute mark a foul was drawn on Verona which gave them a penalty which is converted by Verre making things 1-0. But Inter here would pick up momentum as they started firing on all cylinders creating chance after chance hoping to capitialize. In the same minute Martinez and Skriniar take chances one misses while the other gets blocked. With twenty minutes in the half Martinez and Skriniar again takes back to back chances but this time both their attempts get blocked. With fifteen minutes to go Alan misses a header from the center of the box as the ball goes to the right of the goal. Before the half ends Lukaku looked to get Inter back into the match with a shot from the center of the box which gets saved in the center of the goal. If Inter can keep creating chances it should only be a matter of time before they get back into this match.

Following the break this match resumes with Verona in the lead. Lukaku in after the fifty minute mark takes a shot from the right of the box but the shot gets blocked. Lukaku a few minutes later gets a shot blocked from the center of the box. Salcedo takes Verona’s first chance of the half with a shot from the center of the box which it gets blocked. Skriniar takes a header from the center of the box but the ball goes to the left of the goal. In the sixty third minute Inter make their first subbing of the match as Candreva comes on for Biraghi. Two minutes later Vecino lands a header from the center of the box and the ball lands in the lower left corner putting Inter back in this match as things go all square. Lukaku with ten minutes to go takes a header but the shot gets saved in the center of the goal. A minute later Esposito comes on for Martinez. Shortly after Barella lands a shot from outside the box as it lands in the upper right corner of the goal making things 2-1 to Inter. With five minutes to go D’Ambrosio comes on for Lazaro. Esposito in stoppage time took back to back chances which both chances get blocked. With that Inter win the match 2-1.

This result was to be expected while though they had a rocky start in the first half they didn’t back down and were able to secure the win. In this match they did a great job creating and finishing scoring chances. Defensive wise they did a great job preventing Verona from getting room to create chance but the ones they did create were either blocked or they miss the goal entirely with the exception of the penalty. The man of the match goes to Lukaku who created most of the chances for Inter along with assisting. After the international break Inter take on Torino. As always until the next one Forza Inter,
