Inter Milan 2 Spal 1

San Siro
Milan Italy

After their match against Slavia Prague in the Champions League take on relegation threatened Spal. Inter in their last Serie A match won 3-0 against Torino. Spal on the other hand are coming off a draw against Genoa. The last time these two sides faced each other Inter won the match 2-0. Over the past two seasons Inter have won three out of their last four matches against them the only other result was a draw. In this match both side have their reasons for winning this match. Spal in this match are looking for as many points as possible to dig themselves out of the relegation zone and to stay in the top flight for a fourth season. Inter on the other hand while waiting for Juventus to slip up are looking to stay hot on their heels as they are in the hunt for the Scudetto this season and are hoping to overthrow the dynasty of Juventus. Inter are proving that they’re no joke this campaign. Here is how these two sides stack up when these two sides play on a early Sunday morning match. Inter in this match will need to first and foremost need to work on finishing and capitializing on goal chances They are solid at creating them but capitializing on them as been a hit and miss issue. But overall they have improved in this area over the past few seasons They will also need to continue winning arieal duals which is a area they were struggling with last campaign but with Lukaku and his height as helped with that issue. Defensive wise they need to just maintain their momentum in blocking the chances from Spal and also stealing the ball as well. This match should be a easy win for Inter. In the first half Inter took hold of both possession of the ball and scoring chances. Defensive wise they are making sure not to give Spal room to work and create chances of their own. Inter goes up 2-0 in the first half with two goals coming from Martinez. The half ends with them firmly in control of this match. In the second half Inter kept their pressure on Spal but they weren’t going to be silenced as Valoti finds the back of the net making things 2-1. But Inter would hold on for those much needed three points.

In this match Inter continue with the 3-5-2 formation but there are a few player switches to take note of. In goal is none other than the captain of the helm Samir Handanovic. On the defense is where there is the first player change of course playing together is the duo of Skriniar an Devrij. But returning to the right back position is D’Ambrosio who as been playing in the midfield most of the season. In the midfield on the left getting his second start of the season is Lazaro who is slowly becoming a solid player but hopefully he gets to play more to grow and devolop his skills. Making the switch from the right hand side to the left is Gagliardini who is looking great so far this campaign. In the middle is a player who as played every single match this season in all competitions Brozovic. On the right is Vecino and Candreva. Up top is the killer duo of Martinez and Lukaku who are making history this season with their amazing goal scoring and abilities. This is a solid lineup who is capable of putting Spal to bed.

On a rainy and dreary day in the heart of Milan the players take their place on the pitch after prematch warm ups as this match gets underway. Fifteen minutes in the match the first chance of the match occurs as Inter’s Martinez takes a header from the center of the box but the shot goes over the crossbar. A minute later however Martinez takes another shot this time from outside the box and the ball coast into the lower left corner of the goal giving Inter the 1-0 lead. After the twenty minute mark D’Ambrosio looks to add to their lead with a header but the ball goes to the right of the goal. A minute later Spal gets their first chance of the half as Petagna misses a shot from the right of the box as the ball goes over the crossbar. In the thirty fourth minute Inter get back to back chances with a shot from Brozovic takes a shot from outside the box but it gets saved in the lower left corner. Then seconds later Martinez takes a shot from the left of the box but it goes over the crossbar on the left hand side. With four minutes left in the half Martinez takes a header from the center of the box as the ball lands in the lower left corner making things 2-0 to the homeside. Lazaro in stoppage time looked to add to Inter’s lead with a shot from outside the box but the ball goes to the left of the goal. With that the half ends with the black and blues in firm control of this matchup. If they maintain this momentum this match is their’s for the taking.

Following the break this match resumes with the homeside in the drivers seat as this match resumes. Ten minutes into the half Valoti lands a shot from the right of the box as the ball lands in the lower left corner of the goal making things 2-1. A minute later Murgia takes a shot from the center of the box trying to bring this back on even terms but his attempt is blocked. Martinez in the fifty sixth minute takes a header following a cross from his tag partner Lukaku from the center of the box as the ball lands in the center of the goal. With thirty minutes to go in this Inter dominated match Candreva gets a shot saved from outside the box. Spal themselves would get back to back chances from Valoti and Reca both taking their chances from the center of the box but both attempts go to the left of the goal. Lazaro with sixteen minutes to go takes a shot from outside the box but it gets blocked. A few minutes later Inter make their first subbing of the match as Biraghi comes on for Lazaro. Three minutes later Godin comes on for Candreva but Gagliardini seconds later gets injured forcing them to make their last substitution of the match as Valero comes on for him. With five minutes later Petagna looked to put their side on even terms again with a header from the center of the box but the ball goes to the right of the goal. Inter kept up the defense as they hold on for the three points and due to Juventus draw against Sassuolo means they jumped them in the standings as they move to first place.

As expected this result was anticipated. They were facing a relegation side and were the weaker side as well. Inter did a great job creating and finishing scoring chances along with captilizing on several of those oppurtunities. They were strong on the counter attacks. Defensive wise they did a great job stealing the ball and blocking any of Spal’s chances. Inter overall as improved from the team they were last season. The man of the match goes to Martinez who scored both if Inter’s goals and created most of their chances and assisted in setting up a few other team mates attempts as well. He is a huge asset to this team and currently he’s working on negociating a contract extension. This upcoming Friday Inter take on Roma or as I like to call it the derby della sibling as my mentor and person who’s like a brother to me is a Roma blogger and supporter. As always until the next one Forza Inter.
