Botched penalty cost Inter much needed points. #219

Inter Milan 1 Lazio 2

Stadio Olimpico
Rome Italy

After their stunning comeback win over rivals Milan Inter take on a red hot Lazio who sit third in the standings. Overall Inter have won three out of their last six matches against them. In this match Lazio will look to move into first place and hoping Juventus lose their match. Inter will look to maintain their spot at the top of the table. This match will not be a easy one as both sides are performing well and want to win that coveted title. Inter in this match will need to keep up the hard work on creating and finishing chances but in one area is costing them being caught offside. This is one major issue that has caused them to lose chances and goals. Defensive wise it is imperative that they block any chances Lazio create and steal the ball away from them as much as possible. Lazio will look to do the same but there is one thing that needs to be addressed that Inter will need to not get to them. That is the fact that Lazio fans may chant racist chants towards Lukaku and Young they can’t let those mess with their mentality or else that may be the one thing that will cost them the match. This match more than likely will end in a draw but this match can go either way as both sides are playing top notch football at the moment so anything is possible.

Inter stick with the 3-5-2 formation. In this match in goal is Padelli who is looking like a liability risk has he tends to miss goals coming at him but at the moment he’s the only option they have as Handanovic continues to heal from injury. On the defense is the usual duo of Skriniar and Devrij these two are solid in blocking chances and stealing the ball. Offensively they have been known to convert goals and help with assist. Also joining them is Godin who is rumored to leave the club at the end of the season. On the wingbacks are Ashley Young and Candreva it is unsure when D’Ambrosio will return to the starting lineup in this postion as he does a solid job on the right wingback. On the midfield is Barella, Brozovic and Vecino who have been solid in creating chances and finding the back of the net. Up in front are the main goal scorers of Martinez and Lukaku. Though the only issue comes from Lukaku who struggles to show up in big matches such as this. This is a decent lineup but will it pay off?

In the first half both sides did a solid job creating chances and defending each other quite well. Before the half would end Ashley Young would find the back of the net with a shot from the center of the box landing the ball in the top left corner making things 1-0. This ended the first half as the match was going in Inter’s favor. In the second half both sides maintained their momentum creating more chances. Lazio were given a penalty after a bad foul which wasn’t even a penalty to begin with but Immobile converts the penalty making things even once more. In the sixty ninth minute Lazio would take the lead as Savic lands a shot from the center of the box landing in the lower left corner. Despite Inter trying to fight back Inter lose the match 2-1. This is a tough result as Inter now drop to third as Lazio move into second. This match should’ve been a draw based on that botched penalty call. It seems lately like Juventus Lazio is getting help from the referees. So this match should’ve ended in a draw. But overall Inter did a great job creating and finishing chances. Defensive wise they did the best they could by blocking Lazio’s chances. The man of the match goes to Ashley Young for scoring Inter’s only goal of the match. Inter next take on Sampdoria this match is a must win or any title hopes will be slashed. As always until the next one Forza Inter.
